Directions: This trailhead is at the end of a narrow dead-end road in a residential area in the heart of old Black Hammock. From SR 417 exit 44, follow SR 434 towards Oviedo. After 1 mile, turn left at the Black Hammock sign on the curve onto Deleon Street. Continue down Deleon Street to where it ends at a T. Turn right onto Howard Street. Follow it for 3 miles until it ends. Please drive slowly, as there may be equestrians or children on the road. Be respectful of private property along the road and park only in the parking corral at the trailhead.

Cross Florida Greenway - Inglis Island Trails Equestrian Trails

Part of the Cross Florida Greenway, a multi-use 10 mile trail system crisscrosses this 1,200 acre island between Lake Rousseau, the Withlacoochee River, and the Inglis Canal, through pine plantations, dense oak hammocks, and floodplain forest. No hunting is permitted on the Greenway, so this trail system comes highly recommended for December use. Don’t miss the River Trail, which follows the natural flow of the Withlacoochee River along the north edge of the island. The trailhead is at north end of the Inglis Lock and Dam off US 19. To access the trail system, first contact the West Region Field Office (352-447-1720) to make arrangements for the gate to be opened across the dam.

Lake Rousseau and Inglis Dam entrance is located on Riverwood Road one and half miles east of US19. Take Basswood or Riverwood Drive east from US19 to the dam entrances. There is plenty of parking at the dam.

East Coast Greenway - The East Coast Greenway, a national combined greenway and trail system which has been in the planning stages since 1991, will eventually extend 3,000 miles from Calais, Maine to Key West. The Greenway will connect 25 major cities on the eastern seaboard of the United States and will be accessible to over 30 million people. Often called the "urban Appalachian Trail," 80% of the trail will be located off-road and no motorized vehicles will be allowed. In Florida, 600 miles of trail are planned, all on the east coast of the state. More information about this trail system is being prepared.

Lake George Conservation Area Driving Directions: SR 17 in Seville, turn west on CR 305 (Lake George Road) this is a caution light. Come to first stop sign and turn right on Church St. about a half block the paved road veers left (Lake George Rd, again). Follow toward the left about 2.1 miles, a sign that says Lake George Water Management will be on the right. This is Truck Trail # 2. Do Not turn here but continue slowly, round a small curve, looking to the left there will be another sign. Turn left on this dirt road, there might be a horse marker at this entrance. Follow this road. It will open into a pasture and there will be a fenced area with pump water and primitive restroom.

Osceola National Forest Horse Riding Trails:

Green Trail: Approximately five miles long and is the shortest trail. It is mostly on grated roads and is great for the novice.

Red Trail: Approximately 20 miles long and is the driest of the trails. For a shorter ride, take the cutoff in the middle of the trail and save 10 miles.

Blue Trail: This 20-mile trail meanders along the western boundary of the Big Gum Swamp Wilderness and traverses an old railroad grade across pine Flatwoods and cypress swamps.

Gold Trail: Approximately 16 miles long. It crosses Robinson Branch, which can be deep during wet periods. The trail is not recommended for novice riders during such times.
